AREA COMMITTEE EAST (ACE) WARD PERFORMANCE (Q2)

Report of the Director of Neighbourhood Services

Minutes:

Greg Foister, Fi Cusick and Michelle Graley introduced the report on Ward performance for the second quarter of 2017/18 they highlighted the following points:

 

(a)  Greg Foister – Dales Ward

·  Since the last report there have been a good number of play sessions run in the ward which have been well received.

·  The Neighbourhood Action Team has been working with Community Protection and local police to target traffic issues within the ward.

·  There has been a lot of work on neighbourhood planning and improving the ward including traffic calming and additional signage.

·  Work on the Christmas lights switch on and the Christmas fair is just starting.

·  A second week of action will take place in the second week of October – this week of action will be traffic focused.

·  The Dales Centre is proving to be very popular with a large number of residents visiting and using the library and other facilities there;

 

(b)  Fi Cusick – Mapperley Ward

·  Main fly tipping hotspots in the ward remain Brewsters Recycling Centre and Botany Avenue the 3g camera is due to be moved to the recycling centre shortly.

·  Improvements to the Astley Drive Park will start shortly

·  Work on the reconfiguration of the junction between Redcliffe Road and Mapperley Road is now complete. These works aim to slow down traffic and reduce the width of the neck of the junction to improve safety for pedestrians crossing at this point.

·  Traffic and parking issues in the Querneby Road area continue to be assessed and monitored. Traffic flow surveys are taking place and formal feedback will be sent to all residents in the area.

·  The rebuild/refurbishment of the Wells Community Centre has run into some technical difficulties relating to the drains and a Victorian water culvert that runs below the site. A formal report from Severn Trent Water is awaited, however, the project continues to progress and a new management Committee/Community association is being put into place.

·  The Party on the Park event went ahead. Some of the key activity providers were not present on the day which lessened the offer however the event went well and was well received with around 300 local residents attending throughout the day.

·  The next ward walk will be on 20 September 12.30pm on Ball Street.

·  There will be fireworks display on Coppice Park on 6 November 2017 from 7pm.

·  The last week of action went well. The Garden Maintenance team and apprentices alongside the Nottingham City Homes caretaking team worked hard on Warton Avenue cutting back and lowering hedges and removing rubbish from gardens. Residents joined in and helped out and resident feedback has been very positive.

 

(c)  Michelle Graley – St Anns Ward

·  In an amendment to the appendix circulated with the report to this Committee the Ward Walk on Bullace Road and Surrounding areas will take place on Wednesday 27 September 2017 at 11am until 1pm and the Tea and Cake event scheduled for Wednesday 20 September at the Pakistan Centre is now cancelled.

·  There next week of action is due to start on 23 October 2017 and will have an environmental theme.

·  There will be a family orientated Halloween event on Tuesday 31 October starting at 5.30pm at The Chase Neighbourhood Centre.

·  The St Anns event committee have organised 2 events to date, the St Georges event and the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Thanks to the local people and groups who have contributed to these events there will be further activities and planning has started for Christmas events.

·  As part of Black History Month the Rise project will be hosting a community Jamaican Tea Party event on Saturday 7 October 3pm-5pm which is free to all residents. The Rise project are asking people to bring Black History memorabilia to share and display on the day.

·  The next St Ann’s news letter is due out soon and will have a Christmas/Community Safety theme.
