(b)  Issue raised

 

Adam Pickering, Nottinghamshire Hospice, gave a presentation to the Committee (a copy of which is appended to these minutes), detailing an event, ‘Party in the Park’, to be held 11.00am to 4.00pm on Saturday 10 August 2019 at Woodthorpe Grange Park ‘Party in the Park’.

 

During discussion, it was stated that Councillors were agreeable to supporting the event and Mr Pickering should contact the Neighbourhood Development Officers to discuss what support was available. Mr Pickering also stated that he could be contacted on adam.pickering@nottshospice.org should further information be required.

 

RESOLVED to note the information.

6.

Police and Community Protection Update

Minutes:

Inspector Riz Khan, PS Nicholas Wealthall and PC Jordan Hinds, Nottinghamshire Police, and Rupindar Kooner, Community Protection, updated the Committee on policing matters in the wards, including crime and arrest figures, local initiatives to address crime and anti-social behaviour, actions in respect of ongoing issues, and current Police and Community Protection areas of focus.

 

During discussion, it was stated that:

 

·  the Police are working with Pete Mitchell, Community Protection, to address issues associated with persons sleeping rough and/or begging in the wards;

 

·  Operation Scorpion, which addresses knife crime, has been very successful, both in investigating stabbings and targeting those suspected of carrying knives;

 

·  in the 3 wards, the Police / Community Protection are carrying out more investigations and prosecutions in respect of fly-tipping.

Minutes:

Further to the previous Basford and Bestwood Area Committee minute 30 dated 12 December 2018, Paul Horn, Major Projects, and James Dymond, Parks Development, updated the Committee, via a presentation, on the development of the River Leen and Day Brook ‘Blue Green Infrastructure project’, a scheme to alleviate flooding and improve the environment / bio-diversity along both, including creation of a new park.

 

It was stated that consultation, including community meetings, on the final proposals would commence shortly and run throughout the summer.

Wade Adams, Area Housing Manager, presented the report, which updated the Committee on performance against key issues and themes linked to local priorities and NCH strategic themes, and highlighted funds available to each ward for schemes in the local area.

 

The main summary updates covered capital programmes and major works, area regeneration and environmental issues, key messages from the Tenant and Leaseholder Congress, Tenant and Resident Associations, area performance and ‘good news stories’ and publicity.

 

RESOLVED

 

(1)  to note the report and the available funds for local schemes of £50,123.54 (Basford), £5,059.42 (Berridge) and £36,239.56 (Sherwood);

 

(2)  that the Area Housing Manager be requested to investigate the possibility of introducing the use of a resident’s ‘Good Garden Certificate’ scheme.
