Issues and Good News Stories Verbal updates from Community Representatives Minutes: Community Representatives updated the Committee with issues and good news stories since the last meeting in March 2019.
STOP TRA – Pete Wright informed the meeting that STOP TRA had won an national award, Community Group of the year, he offered thanks to the Councillors present and past who had helped and supported the group and to the Renewal Trust for their support also.
The Committee offered their congratulations on this achievement.

Area Policing Update Update from Inspector James Walker, Nottinghamshire Police Minutes: Inspector James Walker, Nottinghamshire Police, provided an update on year to date crime statistics detailed in the table below:
During discussion, the following points were made:
(a) the volume of crime and the percentage increase may not necessary mean there is an issue in that area. For example Mapperley and Wells has an increase of 400% in robbery, that equates to 4 robberies, but in the previous period there were none whereas Sneinton and Dales shows 0 percent change in robberies as there were 6 robberies in this period compared to 6 robberies the previous year.
(b) Drug offences by their nature can only be recorded when drugs are recovered so an increase in drug offences means more are being seized, following the execution of warrants etc and does not necessarily mean that drugs are becoming more prevalent;
(c) These statistics are reviewed by Nottinghamshire police every two weeks and any patterns are picked up at that point. Measures can then be put in place, where possible, to address these patterns.
(d) There was a violent affray on 22 April 2019 5 people were arrested and charged. There have been no further incidents of affray at the same take away shop since.
(e) Following a burglary at a mobile phone repair shop an offender was identified, charged and sentenced to 2.5years in custody;
(f) Some additional funding has been granted to the area for further work on knife crime. There are now additional patrols in hotspots and work in schools continues. Police officers are also engaging with young people and breaking down the barriers that have traditionally existed;
(g) Concerns were raised about the recurring issues with the 101 number and the closure of front counters at police stations. The issues with 101 are recognised and the force is working on improvements. Front counter closures were as a result of budget pressures and the closures ensured that police officers remained on the streets;
(h) Councillors reiterated that citizens were always welcome to contact them to feedback information to the police;
There was some discussion around how best to report crime statistics to the Area Committee going forward so that it was meaningful to citizens.
RESOLVED to:
(1) discuss with Inspector James Walker, and establish the best way to report crime statistics to the Area Committee going forward; and
(2) note the content of the verbal update.

Nottingham City Homes PDF 351 KB Report of the Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes Additional documents:
Minutes: Luke Walters, Area Housing Manager for Nottingham City Homes updated the Committee on the key issues and themes around regeneration, Capital Programme and area performance. The following points were highlighted:
(a) Foundations have now been completed on West Walk properties, planning permission is in progress for the next phase of development.
(b) Passenger lifts 1 and 4 in the Victoria Centre flats are now operational and work has commenced on lift 2 and 5, completion dates are yet to be confirmed by engineers;
(c) Discussions continue with Intu regarding access to the bin chutes to enable repairs to be made;
(d) As part of a programme of work the following garage blocks will be demolished: · Greenwood Road – hardstanding to be created for allotment parking · Camden Close – possible development site · Tulip Avenue – hardstanding parking · Pointers Close – hardstanding parking · Dennett Close – converted to grassed area with potential for development. Residents who rent garages within these blocks have been contacted and offered alternative spaces.
(e) Tennant and Leaseholder awards were won by · Bluebell Hill Community Rangers - Community Group of the Year · Sycamore Dining Group – Best Older person’s initiative or event · William (Bill) Chambers – Lifetime achievement award The committee offered congratulations to all winners.
There was discussion around Nottingham City Homes repairs statistics as this had been bought up by a number of citizens over the last month or so. The Committee requested that a member of Nottingham City Home responsible for management of repairs to attend the next area committee for a full update.

Ward Performance Report PDF 214 KB Report of the Director of Community Protection Additional documents:
Minutes: Greg Foister, Neighbourhood Development Officer introduced the report focussing on current priorities and issues facing the Dales, Mapperley and St Ann’s wards and giving details of forthcoming events and activities. Greg advised the meeting that it was the start of the civic calendar and new priorities were being discussed as part of the new Council Plan. The following points were highlighted:
(a) Dales Ward: · Parking and traffic issues continue to be monitored on Oakdale Road, Sneinton Dale Edale Road and around the Academy as well as Parkdale, Watson Avenue and Lancaster Road. · Local groups and residents are being encourage to take place in the monthly litter picks that take place on the last Saturday of every month meeting a the Dales Centre at 11.15am · Ward Walks and the Dales week of Action dates are yet to be confirmed.
(b) Mapperley Ward: · All of the funding for the new Wells Road Community Centre has now been confirmed. The old structure has been demolished and the official orders can be put in places. · The community Easter Egg Hunt litter pick event in April at Coppice park was well received by children and adults alike. · There are lots of upcoming events, including Love NG3 at Brewsters Park on 10th August. · Ward Walks and Mapperley week of Action dates are yet to be confirmed.
(c) St Ann’s · Following a spike in graffiti funding has been secured to lead on a Graffiti campaign covering Dales and Mapperley wards too. The campaign will start soon. · Councillors, ASB officers, Nottinghamshire police and other partners continue to work to ensure congregations of young people who are at risk of becoming involved in crime are offered other activities. · St Ann’s carnival will take place on 7 September. Volunteers are required to help with dressing the carnival float and costume making. Anyone interested can contact Michelle Graley · The final year of a three-year traffic survey is starting and there is also focus on creating a list of roads/streets with significant potholes.
