Police and Community Protection update

Verbal update

Minutes:

Inspector Busuttil, Nottinghamshire Police, and Laura Arnold and Rupinder Kooner, Community Protection, updated the Committee on policing matters in the wards, including crime and arrest figures, local initiatives to address crime and anti-social behaviour, and current Police and Community Protection areas of focus.

During discussion, the following comments were made:

a)  if local people report crimes, such as youths on motorcycles with no helmets etc, via ‘live time’, the Police can follow up quickly, often resulting in an arrest and seizure;

b)  the Police / Community Protection are aware of the anti-social behaviour issues in Vernon Park, but unless perpetrators are ‘caught in the act’ they can’t be arrested. Some of the main offenders are known to the Police / Community Protection, the majority of which are homeless and have either been through agencies, such as ‘Framework’ previously, or refuse help;

c)  although contact details for Framework and other agencies are available in libraries, community centres etc, people cannot be forced to contact them.

RESOLVED to note the update and, further to minute 28, reiterate the thanks of the Committee and community to all those involved with ‘Operation Reacher’ for the significant impact it has had on crime and anti-social behaviour in the local area.
