Local Policing update

Minutes:

Nottinghamshire Police Sergeant Bruce Clarke updated the Committee as follows:

Berridge Ward

·  In the year to date, all crime is down 126 crimes (a 6.0% reduction on the same period last year). This includes reductions in robbery, burglary, vehicle crime, drug offences, hate crime and anti-social behaviour:

·  As part of the on-going recruitment of staff, two new constables have joined the Berridge Neighbourhood Policing Team and they are beginning to build their community contacts at local schools, colleges and religious venues;

·  Operation Glaciate – a co-ordinated operation saw the execution of five warrants, three of which were in Forest Fields, and the arrest of seven suspects for sexual exploitation and drugs offences;

·  Operation Sceptre – a week long operation targeting knife crime. The Police and Community Protection completed knife sweeps, set up information stands in Mary Potter Health Centre, delivered inputs to school children and had amnesty bins in police stations.

Sherwood Ward

·  Residential burglary and vehicle crime has shown a reduction over the last 2 weeks after a spike in both;

·  The recent increase in ‘Thefts from Motor Vehicles’ was mainly down to number plates being stolen, which is a hard crime to prevent, and generally happens overnight and is relatively quick to do;

·  Shop lifting is slightly high, but this offence peaks and troughs and work remains on-going;

·  There have been quite a few arrests for residential burglaries recently, some local and some further afield. However, it is not uncommon for offenders to travel to commit crime. At least 4 males have been arrested for offences nearby and are currently released under investigation and enquiries on-going;

·  Increase in mobile phone thefts from victims who have been approached by 1 or 2 males with either a piece of paper or a map, this is placed over the phone and then stolen whilst the victim is trying to help the male.

·  Cannabis grow discovered on Markham Crescent resulted in recovery of a quantity of plants and a male being interviewed in connection with the offence;

·  The beat team, including the Inspector, Community Protection and our local schools officer, enjoyed a few hours at the ‘Visit My Mosque’ day at Fiveways Community Centre;

·  The Police / Community Protection are currently completing extra patrols around local Mosques due to the recent events in New Zealand;

·  This week (Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th) we did an Operation around parking at Seeley School which resulted in 2 TORs being issued and 2 parking tickets, which will hopefully help with this on-going issue.

Knife Amnesty update

·  Sherwood knife sweeps completed by the beat team in Pirate’s Park, Edwards Lane Community Centre, Peggy Park, Carrington underpass, Woodthorpe Park, Wendover house and Mansfield road (behind shops) - all with negative results;

·  Knife crime prevention input at the Children’s Home on Edwards Lane, along with other establishments throughout city North;

·  3 known knife carriers in City North were visited and offered support away from knife carrying - alongside other carriers visited by our IOM team.
