Local Policing and Community Protection Update

Minutes:

Inspector Karl Thomas, Nottingham shire Police, provided the following updates:

 

(a)  there has been a decrease of 9.5% in total crime in Clifton which is better than the average for the Nottingham City South area, with reductions in violent crime and burglary;

(b)  there has been an increase in shop theft in the area and the force is working to reduce this;

(c)  Operation Scrambler targets off-road bike offences with specially trained officers who can use the bikes;

(d)  an operation has been targeting drug dealing at the Wilford toll bridge, with a number of drugs warrants having been issued.

Prairie Bryant, Neighbourhood Development Officer, presented the report focusing on current priorities and issues facing the Clifton East and Clifton West wards and giving details of forthcoming events and activities, highlighting the following:

 

(a)  the parking scheme around Rivergreen and Swansdowne is now in operation. Also, a school street was set up outside Highbank Primary which will now be a permanent arrangement;

(b)  Nottingham City Homes is looking at using former garage sites as self-managed car parks to help alleviate issues on residential roads, particularly around schools;

(c)  the parking scheme in Wilford and Silverdale is now active, and a camera has been approved at Fisherman’s Carpark in Clifton Village to try and stop issues with scooters;

(d)  an asymptomatic testing site is now open at Clifton Community Centre. The level of vaccine take-up in Clifton has been among the highest in the city;

(e)  the Area Partnership meetings have been up and running since November and there is a strong appetite for partnership working and to improve the area.

 

Resolved to note the progress on Ward priorities and other supporting information including the issues being addressed by each Neighbourhood Action Team, and upcoming opportunities for citizens to engage, the latest Crime and Drugs Partnership statistics and the update on the Area Partnership activity.

Report of the Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes

Katie Sharp, Area Housing Manager, presented the report providing updates on key issues and themes which link back to local priorities and the strategic themes for Nottingham City Homes, and highlighted the following:

 

(a)  the intercom and PA system at Southchurch Court is due to be installed by the end of March 2021;

(b)  work creating six new parking spaces at Barkla Close was completed in January 2021. NCH are looking at more parking solutions for Scafell Way to reduce parking on the grassed areas which is being damaged by vehicles parking on there;

 

(c)  NCH has been awarded additional Ministry of Justice Funding via the Police and Crime Commissioner to continue with their Daisy domestic abuse project which is making sure that they provide an enhanced level of support for survivors of domestic abuse. Domestic abuse has been on the rise since the start of lockdown, therefore they are providing additional training for their staff.

(1)  note the update and performance information in appendices 1 and 2 of the report;

31.

Updates and items of good news from Community Representatives

Minutes:

The following updates were provided by Community Representatives:

 

(a)  the access road to Clifton Village Hall car park has been repaired and tarmacked by Tomlinsons who are refurbishing the old rectory as part of a negotiation for the use of the car park;

(b)  Good Companions have been distributing Easter parcels and have had many contributions, for example from Summerwood Community Gardens, churches, Councillors and the Clifton Family Support Group;

(c)  Residents of Barton Green are campaigning for improved access to the new houses being built behind their estate. A petition has been set up for alternative access.

As this will be the final meeting of the Committee, Community Representatives and Councillors suggested an alternative Forum.
