Paper petition details

Larkhill Village Recycling Bins

We, the residents of Lark Hill Village petition the Nottingham City Council to provide more adequate recycling bins for this village. We want to recycle all suitable material but the small recycle pods provided fill within two or three days of the fortnightly collection. There are 327 apartments at Lark Hill. Please permit us to help NCC achieve their recycling target.

Council response

Nottingham City Council are committed to our Carbon Neutral plans and are keen to engage with citizens and encourage positive actions.

In line with other councils, Nottingham City Council has had to make the decision to charge for replacement or additional waste containers due to the ongoing challenging financial environment. In properties owned by management agencies the agency will generally organise sufficient waste and recycling containers for the site. In 2018, Extra Care Charitable Trust purchased 5 foot operated commercial sized containers to enable recycling to take place at Lark hill Village.

Having reviewed the current provision, it would appear that the recycling provision is adequate for nearby properties but we agree that there are some properties that could be disadvantaged by the location and size of the containers and we apologise for not working meticulously with the management agency. It is apparent that the five containers on site lack the capacity to accommodate the statutory collections and we will discuss this with Extra Care to see if we can improve the situation for residents. We are happy to include residents in these discussions to help find suitable solutions.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Waste alvin.henry@nottinghamcity.gov.uk and we will be pleased to organise a meeting.
