ePetition details

Freedom of Nottingham for Steve Cooper

We the undersigned petition the council to Award the Freedom of Nottingham to the Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper to recognise his outstanding achievement of taking the Reds from the bottom of the league to the Premier League. The recognition is also for the whole team and staff.

Promotion to the Premier League - when the club was threatened with relegation when Steve Cooper took over - is nothing short of mini miracle which has done the city proud and puts it back on the map. The economic impact for the city will be huge.

Council response

Nottingham City Council welcomes the petition that recognises the achievements of Steve Cooper as Head Coach of Nottingham Forest FC. He showed remarkable leadership in taking the club from the bottom of the Championship to promotion to the Premier League in a single season. The impact this will have on our city cannot be underestimated. While the council is not currently in a position to offer Mr Cooper the Freedom of Nottingham, it is important to pay tribute not only to him as a manager, but also to the whole squad who showed true determination and resolve in lifting Nottingham Forest to the top tier of English football for the first time in more than 20 years. The civic reception held at the Council House and Old Market Square for the team following their play-off victory at Wembley in July 2022 remains a proud moment in our city’s illustrious footballing history
