Thank you for your petition submitted to Nottingham City Council on 17th January 2019 highlighting concerns with parking around Clifton Grove Areas. Firstly, I’m sorry that you are experiencing difficulties with inconsiderate non-residential parking within your local community.
As you may be aware, the statutory consultation for introducing a resident parking scheme commenced in 2017. All areas including residents in Locksley Lane, Wichnor Close, Twyford Gardens and Croxhall Close were fully consulted with at that time. Unfortunately, many objections were received from the above-mentioned areas therefore further consultation ensued. Again, firm objections were received from the residents in the above areas so a decision was made to introduce the scheme “In Part”. This meant that in streets where there was strong resident support for the scheme, it would be introduced and where there was a lack of support for the scheme, it would be omitted. New parking schemes can be a contentious issue and therefore must include the cooperation of the people it is meant to benefit.
On a positive note, by making the scheme “In Part” there are measures that can be considered to extend the scheme relatively quickly. The desired outcome of your petition is for the Council to extend the current scheme to include the above-mentioned areas. In terms of taking this matter forward and as a positive response to your petition, I will suggest to your local Councillors that subject to necessary funding being identified, the first steps we need to take are to write to all residents in the above areas to consult them on whether they now wish to be included into the scheme.
Finally, may I thank you again for bringing these matters to our
attention and trust that the proposed way forward mentioned above
will go some way to alleviating your concerns on this matter.
