AREA BASED GRANT - AREA 6 pdf icon PDF 1 MB

Presentation by Cherry Underwood, Trust Executive, The Renewal Trust

Minutes:

Cherry Underwood, Trust Executive and Michelle Campbell, Young People’s Performance and Tracking Officer from the Renewal Trust, delivered a presentation to the Committee and highlighted the following information:

 

(a)  £490,228 of funding was allocated via the area based grant in 2014-15 which includes £40,000 per annum towards community associations, £140,000 pa for Employment and Skills, £21,428pa for Digital Inclusion and £22,000pa Renewal Trust management fee;

 

(b)  the Renewal Trust continues to support community associations across the area and has carried out visits to three community associations in the area to support with monitoring, recording and evidencing work. Representatives of the Renewal Trust carried out visits to Northamptonshire along with colleagues from Nottingham City Council and Groundwork Greater Nottingham in order to review a possible asset transfer model for the future;

 

(c)  a variety of partners contribute to promoting employment and skills within the area, such Stonebridge City Farm, Nottingham YMCA, City College Nottingham, the Renewal Trust Employment Outreach Service and the Renewal Trust Sports Employment and Development Project. Employment and Skills partners focus on delivering activities to help unemployed people into work, work experience placements and volunteering projects;

 

(d)  annual targets are set for the Employment and Skills partnership providers, and monitoring information is submitted on a monthly basis detailing performance against a variety of outputs, such as the number of Work Clubs per week, the number of people who access work experience placements, evidence of engagement in neighbourhood activities and the number of people referred to the Council’s Employer Hub. In Quarter 1 the Area Based Grant’s Employment and Skills funding helped get 42 people into work, against an actual target of 57. Employment and Skills funding provided above target assistance in work experience sessions, volunteering and half day work club sessions;

 

(e)  in 2014/15, £16,000 funding was allocated as part of the Area Based Grant Domestic Violence Project Funding. Initiatives for 2014/15 include providing training for local project staff, working with young people through youth provision and local schools, developing local schools and Community Champions and ensuring sustained communications campaign across the ward;

 

(f)  in 2014/15, £224,000 was allocated to the Young People Service Funding stream with organisations such as Community Recording Studio delivering 1-2-1 and group targeted support. A range of organisations benefiting from Young People Service funding will continue to provide information, advice and guidance to encourage employability, literacy and coaching skills. The number of young people aged 10-17 years old attending Holiday Activity Provision from 25 July 2014 to 29 August 2014 was 1643 which represents 86% of targeted attendance;

 

(g)  £20,200 of Communities of Identity Funding has been distributed across the city in 2014/15 with Stonebridge City Farm acting as a partner. The funding provides activities to support improved self confidence, health improvement activities and encouraged participation in training;

NOTTINGHAM CITY HOMES - UPDATE pdf icon PDF 400 KB

Report of the Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes

Minutes:

Kristian Murden, Tenancy and Estates Manager at St Ann’s Housing Office, presented the report of the Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes (NCH) outlining key performance updates on programme and environmental issues, highlighting the following:

 

(a)  2014/15 marks the final year of the Nottingham Decent Homes programme where Keepmoat and Bullock have improved kitchen and bathrooms around the city where required. The Asset Management Team will continue to liaise with customers who are yet to have improvement work carried out with a view to planning any outstanding remedial work by the end of March 2015;

 

(b)  St Ann’s currently has the highest number of anti-social behaviour figures in the city which indicates that there is confidence in reporting incidents and that enforcement action is being taken in when anti-social incidents are being reported;

 

(c)  the percentage of collected rent is down on the figure from last year. This continues to be affected by the “bedroom tax” and the resulting £2.3 million extra annual collection requirement.

Report of the Strategic Director for Commercial and Neighbourhood Services

Michelle Graley, Neighbourhood Development Officer (NDO) for St Ann’s, Greg Foister, NDO for Dales, and Fi Cusick, NDO for Mapperley, introduced the Strategic Director for Commercial and Neighbourhood Services’ report providing summary updates on key themes within the Nottingham Plan 2020 for Quarter 2 2014/15, highlighting the following:

 

(a)  there will be a local meeting with the Police and Crime Commissioner, Paddy Tipping on Wednesday 10 December 2014 at 6.30pm at the St Ann’s Valley Centre who will be on hand to field questions;

 

(b)  other public meetings in St Ann’s include 20 January 2015 at 6pm, Victoria Flats, 3 February 2015 at 6pm for Marple Square Playworks and 6pm on 7 April at Stonebridge Estate;

 

(c)  work to tackle domestic violence in St Ann’s continues and discussions are ongoing to place an advertisement on local buses, cars and vans. A magnet has been produced which includes local emergency contact numbers for distribution. A White Ribbon coffee morning will be taking place on 27 November 2014 with services on hand to discuss issues around domestic violence with residents with fresh tea, coffee and cake for every pledge;

 

(d)  the St Ann’s Christmas lights switch-on, including fireworks is scheduled to take place on Friday 5 December at 4pm;

 

(e)  Dales ward councillors have held a series of successful ward walks around Ashworth Close and Parkdale Road. Two community clear ups have also taken place in Dales including a bulb planting sessions and gully clearances. A total of 131 incidents of fly tipping have been identified, investigated and reported in Dales and 28 graffiti items removed. The Christmas switch-on in the Dales ward is scheduled to take place on 16 December 2014;

 

(f)  auto-crime and burglary remain priorities in Mapperley however work is ongoing to tackle and address these issues. Two hundred and fifty volunteers from Experian helped decorate the indoor of Wells Road Community Centre.

Report of the Strategic Director for Commercial and Neighbourhood Services

 

Minutes:

Greg Foister, NDO for Dales, introduced the Strategic Director for Commercial and Neighbourhood Services’ report detailing the latest spend proposals under the Area Capital Fund, including highways and footways, subject to the following additions:

 

(a)  a feasibility traffic study on Port Arthur Road and Bandon Powell Road in the Dales ward totalling £3,000;

 

(b)  12 raised beds including wildflower planting totalling £3185 in St Ann’s ward;

 

(c)  9 Heather Close – installation of one hand rail and combination wall totalling £495 in St Ann’s ward;

 

(d)  the Council has recently received just over £39k of Section 106 funding from a development at Marco Island and the Parks and Open Spaces team have decided to allocate this to Victoria Park & St Mary’s Rest Garden as it’s the nearest open space. The works will include landscaping changes (removing poor quality planting etc) and play area improvements with work anticipated to get underway in early 2015.
